I hope that everyone is following the terrific content posted weekly from SaaS industry thought leader Jamin Ball. His insights on industry trends are invaluable for companies like Opscompass that are building enterprise solutions for a diverse customer base.
On October 18, Jamin Ball published an article called “From Systems of Record to Systems of Intelligence.” When he posted this on X, it immediately caught my attention since we have started branding Opscompass as an Asset Intelligence Platform. This branding focus was sharpened as we worked with customers to provide access to actionable intelligence that is derived from the raw data that is often contained in their systems of record.
In the article, Jamin pointed out that the real value to customers is not in accumulated data, but in systems of intelligence that often are adjunct to the raw data source. He says, “There’s a long-held belief in enterprise software that building a lasting moat requires a system of record. Salesforce is the system of record for customer data, Workday for employee data, and ServiceNow for IT data, to name a few. The idea is that the central repository of critical business data forms the core value. But while this central database is important, it’s not the whole story. The real value…comes from the workflows and integrations that are built around these systems of record.”
Actionable Asset Intelligence.
At Opscompass we take raw IT asset data from multiple sources, including ServiceNow, Flexera, Snow, Eracent, USU, MS Intune, etc. We then couple that data with information from our own discovery tools to create the data repository for our users to derive the actionable intelligence that they need to do their jobs.
Most IT and Software Asset Management Systems (SAM tools) are so complex and difficult to manage, that organizations have a team of analysts that are responsible for running reports and keeping the data up-to-date. But what if someone from the finance department, or the legal team needs an answer to a critical question, but they don’t know how to use, or even have access to the SAM tools? They end up making a request to the SAM team for information or a report. Why does accessing business intelligence need to be restricted to only a few? Why can’t intelligence be democratized, and accessible by anyone that has an interest in those assets?
AI in IT Asset Management
Jamin posits in his article that AI will eliminate the need for human users, saying, “In the AI-first future, the real value won’t lie in complex interfaces for human users, but in how well the system can gather, store, and process data autonomously.”
Opscompass integrates the power of AI Large Language Models, trained with decades of real-world human experience, to generate the intelligence our users crave. In my opinion, the real value of AI is not in eliminating the need for human users, but in empowering those users with context-specific information that they can use to benefit their roles, teams, and organizations. It turns the operation from sifting through technical data to leveraging business intelligence to make informed decisions. Opscompass also bridges silos within an organization by enabling different roles to have a common understanding of the risks and costs associated with their IT assets. This allows our users to communicate and collaborate more effectively on how to manage the risks and control the costs.
If you are struggling to make sense of your IT asset data, including your databases (like Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL), your applications (like MS 365, or Oracle E-Business Suite), or your platforms (like VMware, or public clouds environments) reach out to us and schedule a demo!
We would love to show you how Opscompass can give you the intelligence you need.
